This site covers news, upcoming
conferences, workshops, jobs, academic programs, and film festivals related to
visual anthropology, as well as searchable lists of books and films. The page
also includes a link to a fairly active facebook group.
An Italian organization for visual
communication, ethnographic film, and photography keeps up the site. You can
search their site for articles or films.
This brand new online peer-reviewed
journal came out with its first volume in 2012. It plans to publish two issues
per year. The journal includes articles/papers, videos, photo-essays, and
reviews of ethnographic films. All of the content is accessible for free with
registration to the website.
This organization advocates for the
rights of indigenous peoples around the world. Their efforts to bring attention
to loss of culture, language, and lands often use visual anthropology methods. Their
publications show how these methods can be useful for cultural advocates and
resource managers.
This website is a fantastic
resource. It is run by Dr. Nakamura, an assistant professor of anthropology at
Yale. It includes a gallery of her works, background on important
photoethnographers of the past, and advice on technique and equipment for those
interested in doing their own. One of the things I really like about it is that
she discusses how photoethnography is both a science and an art.
